Agilika Island

An island that was the main gateway to Egypt from the south. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the city of Aswan, where the picturesque nature surrounding its temples and monuments that embody the various historical eras. It is the island of "Agilika", known as "Anas al-Wujud", located in the old Aswan Dam area along the Nile River.

Concerning its name, it is a Nubian name meaning "wolves", since it was a shelter for wolves before it came to life again after the Philae Temple was moved to it after the construction of the High Dam.

Among the monuments on the island are: the Temple of Isis, the Imhotep Temple, which dates back to the Ptolemaic period, the chapel of Nectanebo I, a small group of Greek and Roman temples, the Temple of Hathor, and Trajan’s chapel, which Emperor Trajan erected to worship Isis, and the island’s huge columns with inscriptions and decorations more than wonderful, and others.
